Grain truck crashes into Colfax Canal

Driver of crashed grain truck sustains possible minor injuries

COLFAX - A grain truck coming down East Canyon Street from the direction of Palouse crashed into the Colfax canal, passing Greg's Electrical, 202 South Main Street, on the morning of Wednesday, July 12.

Colfax Police Chief Bruce Blood confirmed that the driver was Kevin Llamas, 22, of Mesa, Washington, and sustained a possible minor injury to his right arm.

"He might have a right broken arm," Blood said, adding that the hospital will know after they do an X-ray.

The Colfax Fire Department, Whitman County Sheriff's Department, and Colfax Police Department were on the scene, examining the truck and spilled grain.

Several local bystanders stood by watching as they examined the scene. A couple who lived on the hill stated they could feel the boom as the truck hit the opposite side of the canal.

The Colfax Fire Department and local law enforcement are working on removing the truck from the canal.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
