15th Annual Peter Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament slated to tee off on July 8

Tournament benefits WSU neuroscience scholarship

COLFAX — The Peter Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament will be held in Colfax on July 8.

This will be the 15th annual tournament, the first tournament took place in 2008.

The tournament benefits the Peter A. Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship at Washington State University. The scholarship has been awarded to 21 deserving students to date, with the students spread across the nation and world, contributing to the health and well-being of the community.

Peter Zornes was raised in Oakesdale, graduating from Oakesdale High School in 1999 as the valedictorian. He then attended Washington State University, graduating in 2003 as cum laude with a degree in Neuroscience.

He was killed at the age of 25, and the scholarship was created in his honor.

The scholarship seeks to honor and remember Peter, and have the recipients continue the work Peter was doing.

This tournament is the primary fundraising event for the Peter A. Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship.

The format for the tournament will be a scramble tournament, which will start at 10 a.m. Sign in and registration will start at 9 a.m. Prizes will be given out for first place and runner-up, as well as awards for longest putt, longest drive, and closest to the pin. There will also be some fun extra prizes and activities during the day.

The tournament will start in a shotgun-start format, and will be 18 holes.

There will be hotdogs and beverages available at the clubhouse at anytime once the event starts. Soda and water will be provided, but alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

The clubhouse will also have a putting contest going on all day.

An all-day silent auction will take place inside the clubhouse. There will be items from local businesses and individuals. There will also be a sit down dinner after the conclusion of the tournament for golfers, family, and friends, with a cost for family and friends.

After the round, five golfers will be randomly drawn to compete in a cash Shoot-Out. They will have one shot from 165 yards to get a hole-in-one, winning a large cash prize if successful.
