34th annual Lind Combine Derby this weekend

LIND — Lind, Washington will host the annual Lind Combine Derby starting Friday, June 9 and running through Saturday, June 10.

The event will consist of various vehicle races/demolitions. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.lindcombinederby.com/event-details/lind-demolition-derby-2023. You can also purchase tickets for RV/Camping passes online as well.

Among competitors this year is Erik Labes, a veteran of the event of over 10 years. This could potentially be the last time he will compete in the derby.

From Hay, Washington, Caleb Hannas is going to be competing in the event.

From Pullman, Washington, Grady Gfeller will be amongst the new batch of driver’s competing in this years events.

Starting Friday, car and pickup races headline the start of the event at 6 p.m.

June 10 will host the rest of the scheduled events. Starting at 10:45 a.m. there will be a kiddie parade, followed by the grand parade at 11 a.m.

After the parade be sure to head to the park at noon for a barbeque.

Stay at the barbeque for a few hours before making your way to the track at 2 p.m. for the start of the Saturday races. The first race will be pickup races.

Pickup race registrations and price will be a $30 entry fee for a pickup and driver. To have a legal pickup, all trucks are required to have heavy duty mud flaps. There will be a payout during the event for winning drivers, that will be determined on race day.

For other specific rules for pickup drivers and equipment on their vehicles

After the conclusion of the pickup races, the Combine derby will start at 3 p.m., as well as the grain truck races.

“This experience is all about the thrill of crushing steel, it’s a very unique experience,” said Lane Hannas, president of Lind Lions Club.

Make sure to head for some great food and vendors that will be at the event. There will be burgers and hot dogs, candy, soda, water, coffee, popcorn, among other “fair foods”. There will also be shaved ice from the LRHS FBLA shaved ice trailer.

Lions Club Beer garden will also be available both days starting an noon.

Wheat-Lind Coffee House will also be there serving coffee. There will also be bar food and vendors from Haase’s bar and Slim’s bar and grill.

There will also be live music from Chrissy Alexander and the Fred Bauer Band throughout the event.

If you choose to camp while at the Lind derby, there will be garbage dumpsters available for people camping, but no other conveniences. No ground fires will be allowed at the campsite.
