Election season kicks off in Whitman County

COLFAX — This year, Whitman County has 154 local seats that are up for election. The filing period, which closed Friday, May 19, has attracted contenders seeking various positions, including mayoral hopefuls, council members, and other significant roles.

Incumbent mayors, including James Retzer of Colfax, Jerry Weber of Colton, Mike Webb of St. John, Roy Schulz of Tekoa, and Phyllis Bogner of Lamont have all declared their intentions to run for re-election, adding a sense of continuity to their respective communities.

Of the 154 local seats available, 38 have become contested races.

In the Pullman School District, both James Evermann and Craig Nelson are campaigning for the title of Director District 3 in the Rosalia School District.

In Rosalia, three candidates, Terry Larson, Raymond anderson, and Lisa McGuire have filed to run for the position of Director District 4 at Large.

The position of St. John Director District 3 is contested between Melissa Edminster and Dallas Loomis.

The position of Colfax City Council seat 6 is between Dustin Guenthner and Sarah Sevedge.

Two candidates, Nate Pierson and Richard Dean Marty are engaging in campaign efforts to become the next mayor of Endicott.

Endicott’s City Council seats 1, 3, and 5, are all contested races between Don Adsitt and Debbie Wolfe, Nick Nicora and Megan Webster, and Thomas Webster and Destiny Corean respectively.

In Garfield, Jason Bankus and Neal Leon are contending for the role of City Council seat 2.

Palouse too has a competitive mayoral race, between April Borden and Tim Siever.

The position of Ward 1 Council seat 4 is between Ann Parks and Dan Maher, while the role of Ward 3 Council seat 3 saw Pat Wright and CJ Robert file for candidacy.

Two candidates, Eric Fejeran and Holly Greystone are vieing for Pullman City Council seat 6.

Lastly, the City of Tekoa has become a hotbed of contested elections, with two mayoral candidates Roy Schulz and Shelly Ausmus filing for candidacy. In addition, seats 1, 3, and 7 on the Tekoa City Council are between Todd Jensen and Mandie Prince, Brad Chandler and Pete Martin, and Lydia Flether and Cheri Currier respectively.

The Whitman County Board of Elections Office will be releasing a list of offices that did not have candidate file this coming week.
