Bulldogs move on to Softball District Championship game Saturday

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs softball team advanced to the finals for the 2B District 7 Softball Tournament with two decisive victories at home in the first stages of the tournament. The Championship game will be played on Saturday, May 20.

Colfax took on Davenport to start the day, then finished against Liberty.

The first game of the day for the Bulldogs saw them take on the Davenport Gorillas. The Bulldogs would go on to win the game 25-2 thanks to a 16-run bottom of the second inning.

"They did pretty good. We haven't played a game in two weeks," Colfax head coach Tracy Imler said.

On the day, Delaney Imler had five at-bats but did not record a hit. She was also walked twice for RBIs and was hit by a pitch in the game.

Three Bulldog players had three RBIs in the game. Harley Hennigar went 1-5 with three RBIs, Harper Booth went 2-5 with three RBIs, and Kirsten Akesson went 1-5 with two RBIs.

The Bulldogs were walked 16 times in the game and were hit by two pitches. They also produced 11 hits in the game to help them score their 25 runs.

Brenna Gilchrist had a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the second to help the onslaught of runs for the Bulldogs. Hennigar had a bases clearing double in the inning as well.

The bottom of the fourth saw Booth earn a two-RBI single to help push the lead to 23 for the Bulldogs.

"They hit well, watch the ball well, took walks when we needed when they gave themselves and when we got good pitches we hit," Imler said.

Both Imler and Akesson pitched two innings for the Bulldogs. Imler allowed one hit and struck out four batters while Akesson allowed two hits and struck out two batters.

The runs for Davenport came off the pitching from Karmen Akesson. She pitched one inning and allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on zero hits but three walks. She also had a strikeout in the game.

The second game for Colfax was against the Liberty Lancers. Colfax did not miss a beat from the morning game, as they scored runs early and often way as they won the game 10-0 after five innings.

Devan Becker and Booth led the way with two RBIs each. Imler picked up an RBI from a sac fly in the game as well.

Both KeiLena Nelson and Becker had triples in the game. Nelson led the way with two hits in the game, the Bulldogs would finish with six total.

Imler pitched all five innings for the Bulldogs, allowing three hits for no runs and walking one batter. She also struck out 11 batters in just five innings.

The first inning saw the Liberty defense allow two runs to score on two wild pitches.

In the top of the fifth inning Liberty had runners on first and second, but Imler stood tall, and got key strikeouts to end the inning and advance to the District Championship game Saturday.

Colfax will now head to Spokane, Washington Saturday to play against Northwest Christian in the championship game at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex. The game will be at 3 pm. The loser of that game will play at 7 pm on Saturday in a final "winner-to-state" game.
