Colton girls win sixth-straight game

Colton softball improved to 13-3 as they defeated Dayton/Waitsburg by a score of 13-3 May 2.

Colton now sits second in the 1B Southeast Softball standings with their conference record of 5-2, they trail Liberty Christian, who have a 12-0 conference record.

Colton asserted their dominance early in the game, scoring seven runs in the first two innings combined to jump ahead, and stay ahead throughout the game.

In the game, Dayton only managed three runs on three hits, with all their runs coming in the top of the fifth inning. They also had two errors in the game.

Colton scored at least two runs in four of the five innings, the bottom of the third was the only scoreless inning for Colton on the day.

The Wildcats reached their 13 runs on 12 hits, they also had three errors in the game, but made up for them with their continuous offensive firepower.

For Dayton/Waitsburg, starting pitcher Madison Gallardo went two innings and allowed seven runs, five of which were earned. She also allowed six hits, including a home run in her appearance. Kiya Soza hit the home run for Colton.

After Gallardo, Kameryn Tupling came in and pitched two more innings for Dayton/Waitsburg. She allowed six more runs on six hits and struck out one batter.

Pitching for Colton was dominated by Sidni Whitcomb, who pitched three innings. Whitcomb pitched three scoreless, hitless innings for the Wildcats while striking out three batters.

Soza laid her mark all over the game, pitching the last two innings for the Wildcats. She slightly struggled, allowing three runs on three hits, but struck out a game-high four batters.

Including the home run, Soza went 4-4 offensively and tallied six RBIs. She also scored a run in the game.

First baseman Claire Moehrle went 2-3 offensively and had four RBIs. She also walked once and scored three runs.

Dayton/Waitsburg scored their three runs in the fifth inning. The Tupling sisters picked up all three RBIs in the game. Kameryn Tupling went 1-3 with two RBIs and Marissa Tupling went 1-3 with an RBI. The third hit in the game for Dayton/Waitsburg was hit by Aylssa Segraves, who also scored a run.

Besides Soza and Moehrle, eight-of-nine batters recorded at least a hit for Colton. Centerfielder Kate Schultheis picked up a two-RBI hit in the game and catcher Rachel Becker had the final RBI for the Wildcats.

Colton takes their six game winning streak into their last away game of the season as they travel to Sunnyside, Washington to take on the Sunnyside Christian Knights May 9.

For Dayton/Waitsburg, they have their final home game of the season the same day as they play host to Tri-Cities Prep. Both Dayton/Waitsburg and Tri-Cities Prep have a 1-3 conference record in the 2B EWAC East Softball standings.
