Colton Wildcats take win in doubleheader

COLTON –– The Wildcats Varsity Baseball team scored two wins in the doubleheader against St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) on Tuesday, April 25.

Colton Varsity Wildcats would pull away in the third inning, scoring six runs, securing the 9-5 victory in the game.

The first game opened up when the Eagles scored one run by Brennen Gonzalez in the first inning.

Colton Wildcats Varsity pulled away for good with six runs in the third inning.

In the third inning, Dan Bell singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Wyatt Jordan doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run. Chance McBride drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored another run for the Wildcats.

Tanner Baerlocher singled on the first pitch of the at-bat and scored two runs for the Varsity Wildcats.

Angus Jordan was the winning pitcher for Colton Wildcats Varsity. The right-hander went for five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out six and walking one.

Matthew DeFord was on the mound for SJEL Eagles. He went six innings, allowing nine runs on six hits, striking out six. DeFord also went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead SJEL in hits.

Colton Wildcats collected six hits in the game. Bell and Jordan managed multiple hits for Colton.

SJEL struggled to put runs on the board in the second game, allowing the Wildcats to pull ahead in a 16-6 victory for Colton.

SJEL got on the board in the first inning when DeFord tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Colton Varsity Wildcats pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning.

In the second, an error scored two runs for Colton. Angus Jordan and Grant Wolf drew a walk, scoring one run; Bell singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, and Wyatt Jordan singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

SJEL scored four runs in the fifth inning. The offense in the inning came from a walk by Isaac Kobelski, a single by Brennen Gonzalez, and a groundout by Joe Hergert.

Wolf secured the victory for the wildcats at the mound. He went five innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out seven.

Gonzalez took the loss for SJEL. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and five runs while striking out two.

Jake Melhus started the game for the Eagles and allowed three hits and eight runs over one inning, striking out one.

Kobleski, Melhus, Gonzalez, and DeFord all managed one hit to lead the Eagles.

Colton Wildcats tallied eight hits in the second game. Rayden Hop and Jordan each secured multiple hits for Colton. The Wildcats did not commit a single error in the field. Ryan Impson had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.

SJEL is set to play Pomeroy in another doubleheader on Saturday, April 29.

Colton Wildcats Varsity will also play a doubleheader in the upcoming game on Saturday, April 29, against Garfield-Palouse.
