COLFAX - Scholastic Book Fair had its last day Friday, April 21, staying open until the end of school.

Scholastic Book Fair organizer Hannah Kuhl stated it was going well then, and they'd have final numbers around 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Thursday night, the fair had brought in $7,000.

Kuhl stated that as of Friday night, the Colfax PTO sold $6,533.63 in books at the fair, making a profit of about $3,200 in Scholastic dollars.

"We purchased $2,242 worth of books, with scholastic profit funds for each Jennings Elementary teacher's classroom, and purchased books for our Christmas book exchange and the Read All Day event we host in the spring," Kuhl said.

Kuhl explained that with scholastic anything over $30,000, scholastic gives 50 percent back in scholastic dollars to spend on books.

"Every year, we buy $100 for each classroom," she said.

She further explained that they give $200 to the library teacher to stock the library shelves too. Funds left over sponsor the Read All Day event and the Christmas Book exchange.

Kuhl stated they appreciate the community's support, with two parent shopping nights on Tuesday and Thursday of the Fair week. She added that when parents send money for their kids to buy books, it benefits the whole school.

"We're just really thankful to benefit all those students," she said, noting that the fair was a great success.

Colfax schools have two book fairs every year. One in October, and one in Spring, usually March to April, Kuhl shared, adding that it flexes.
