Bulldogs softball loses after seven game win streak

COLFAX – The Varsity Bulldogs lost their first game this season against Warden on Tuesday, April 4. The team fell behind early in the game and could not come back in a 19-0 loss to Warden.

Warden scored on a fielder’s choice by Liza Leinweber and a single by Emma Cox in the first inning.

The Colfax Bulldogs struggled to keep the high-powered offense of Warden and allowed for 19 runs.

Karmen Akkeson took the loss for Colfax going two innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and walking zero.

Delaney Imler started the game for the Bulldogs. She surrendered 13 runs on seven hits over two innings, striking out two.

Warden hit two home runs throughout the game.

Warden had 15 hits in the game with zero errors.

Despite having lost its first game of the season the Bulldogs picked up a win in their second game on April 4 against Kittitas.

Colfax overcame Kittitas while facing an early 6-run lead in the game.

Colfax Bulldogs managed to push by Kittitas in the fifth inning where the Bulldogs coughed up 6 runs. The Colfax Bulldogs won 23-9 and got on the board in the first inning when Harley Hennigar singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring 1 run.

In the bottom of the first inning, Kittitas tied things up at one when Rillee Huber hit a solo homer. The Bulldogs managed to pull away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second, Ella Jones doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Akkeson singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run for Coflax.

The Bulldogs tallied 12 runs in the fifth inning. Imler, Ava Swan, Devan Becker, Jones, Akkeson, and KeiLena Nelson all drove in runs throughout the inning.

Imler led the Bulldogs to victory on the rubber. Imler surrendered three runs on five hits over three and a third innings. Imler also stuck out four.

Colfax Bulldogs Varsity took a home run for the team. Hennigar went for the long ball in the third innig.

The Bulldogs collected 18 hits. Becker, Booth, Akkeson, Nelson, Imler, and Hennigar each collected multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Booth and Becker each collected three hits to lead the team to victory. The team stole nine bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Akkeson led the way with two. Kittitas tallied 11 hits in the game.

The softball varsity team had expanded its winning streak before the Warden game on Friday, March 31, after securing their sixth and seventh win.

The girls played against Davenport on Friday and allowed for zero losses throughout their double-header.

Leading the way in the first game, Imler threw another complete game and led the Bulldogs to a 16-0 victory.

Right from the first inning, Imler drew a walk, scoring one run.

However, that first run only fired up the Bulldogs more; in the second inning, the Bulldog’s varsity team scored eight runs.

Nelson, Booth, Hennigar, Becker, Jones, and Brenna Gilchrist all drove in runs during the inning.

Imler allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six.

The Bulldogs totaled ten hits. Nelson and Imler each had multiple hits for the team. Nelson led with the most hits on the team, scoring three hits in three at-bats. Booth made the most plays with nine.

Booth, the RBI machine, fired up the second game on March 31 as she drove in six on three hits against Davenport. Booth drove in runs on a double in the first inning, a triple in the third, and a single in the fourth.

The Bulldogs led 21-2 against Davenport, securing their seventh win of the season so far.

Akkeson led the charge at the pitcher’s circle for the Bulldogs. She lasted three innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two and walking zero.

The Bulldogs totaled 12 hits on the day. Booth, Imler, and Hennigar each scored multiple hits for the team. Booth went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the varsity team in hits.

In addition to the hits, the team tore up the bases as four players stole at least two bases; Gilchrist committing the most theft on the field, stole three bases.

Colfax Varsity Bulldogs have played nine games and have lost one. The team has a reported batting average of .410 with an on-base percentage of .551.

The team has scored a total of 100 hits this season with 138 runs. Nelson and Akkeson lead the way with the most runs for the team so far, with Nelson scoring 20 runs and Akkeson scoring 19.

The girls will return to the field for their next game at Asotin on Tuesday, April 11.
