Serving Whitman County since 1877
COLFAX — With spring upon us, Whitman County Library hosted gardening programs to assist gardeners at several branches of the library and several upcoming events.
The St. John library will also open its seed library from April 20 through 23 at the St. John Stock Show.
The Rosalia branch of the library is hosting its annual Arbor Day Tree giveaway Saturday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thunderhawk Ranch and Friends of the Rosalia library have made generous donations; community members can select a free tree seedling. One is available per person while supplies are available.
The little trees and shrubs include evergreen and deciduous trees and several berry bushes. They come from the Palouse Conservation District plant sale.
Monthly gardening clubs will continue at the Endicott and Tekoa branches of the library, with two master gardener presentations.
In Tekoa, Meg Sutton returned to the library to present her talk on Medicinal herbs on Thursday, March 23, at 6 p.m.
The Garfield branch of the library hosted gardening and rock painting Friday, March 24, at 6 p.m. Participants learned how painting rocks could fool birds out of the garden and were encouraged to bring some “strawberry” sized rocks.
WSU Master Gardener Kathy Prout of Pullman visited the Endicott library to share tips and tricks for bed and container gardening Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m.
The Palouse branch of the library celebrated spring by opening the seed library Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In the seed library, there are herbs and flowers, as well as vegetables and native plants. The Pullman Building Supply donated packets, and local gardeners donated some that they harvested.
