Colton's run at state ends with loss

SPOKANE -In a loser-out matchup, Waterville-Mansfield defeated Colton 50-26 in the 2B Girls State Basketball Tournament at the Spokane Arena, Friday, March 3.

With the win, Waterville-Mansfield plays Oakesdale for fourth place at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 4.

The first quarter featured long range bombs as the teams combined for 10 3-point shots. Kyndra Stout converted three for the Wildcats and Jimena and Jasmine Garcia combined for five for the Shockers.

Waterville-Mansfield led after one quarter 20-12.

The teams' shooting cooled in the second quarter. W-M held Colton to six points but only scored seven of their own, enough for them to maintain a 27-18 lead at the half.

The Shockers dominated the second half, limiting the Wildcats to only eight points as they cruised to the 50-26 win.

Jasmine Garcia led W-M in scoring with 14 points, while her sister Jimena Garcia scored 13.

Stout scored 14 points for Colton followed by Grace Kuhle's 10 points. Stout and Clair pulled down nine and six rebounds, respectively.

"It was a great season," Colton head coach Clark Vining said. "We accomplished a lot. We didn't get the result from the tournament that we wanted, but it doesn't take away from what we did this season."
