PULLMAN—The Washington State Patrol (WSP) will be conducting emphasis patrols starting March 9 through March 19, 2023, as Washington State University (WSU) students head out for Spring Break.
There will be an increased WSP presence on state routes 26 and 195, as well as Interstate 90 through Snoqualmie Pass.
The WSP patrols encouraged motorists to pay attention to speed limits, and weather conditions, in a press release from Monday, March 6.
Due to winter weather being a possibility the WSP states that students traveling across the state should prepare for winter travel conditions. Including carrying a small emergency kit with water, food, blankets, winter clothing, and emergency flares.
Travelers should make sure all the fluids in vehicles are full, and the vehicle’s battery is in good working order. All-season, or snow tires, and tire chains are advised.
“Our primary mission is to ensure that everyone enjoys safe travels during Spring Break,” WSP District 4 Commander Captain Jeff Otis said.
During the emphasis District 4 troopers in Spokane, Whitman and Adams counties; and District 6 in Grant and Kittitas counties, will be focusing on collision causing violations to include excessive speed distracted driving
Current road and weather conditions on all state highways can be found by going to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) website or mobile pass provided by WSDOT, which updates on road and weather conditions.
The release states that the WSP, WSU, WSDOT and other state and local officials will be working hard throughout Spring Break to ensure everyone heading to and from Pullman has a safe and enjoyable break.
Information will be updated by WSP public information officers (PIO’s) throughout the emphasis using the hashtag #BeSafeCougs on Instagram and Twitter.
