Tekoa Reels and Romance event successful

Approximately $35,000 raised for Dollars for Scholars

TEKOA-Tekoa Dollars for Scholars board hosted their Valentines event Friday, Feb. 10 in the Tekoa Community Center and Empire Theatre.

"It was very successful, we're still getting all of our money in," Coordinator, and member of the Board of the Dollars for Scholars, Melinda Wilkins said, noting that they raised around $35,000, which will all go to the Tekoa chapter of Dollars for Scholars.

Wilkins stated that close to 50 people showed up for the event, and several organizations helped them set it up. There were several local performers, including Miyanna Gamero who performed the violin and Whitney Bloom who sang. Sara Logan played the piano, and Eliza Evan-Taegue sang.

Wilkins added that Erin Wise Khetouch sent in a video in. The MC's for the evening were Sara and Donovan Chase.

"They were great," Wilkins said, explaining that they did some parodies to some of the movies.

Parodies were done of Ghost, Shrek, and the Titanic.

"Miyanna played the violin to Armageddon, Sara played the theme from Love Story," said Wilkins, adding that Evan-Taegue sang "When I fall in love," from Istanbul, Bloom sang "My heart will go on," and Khetouch sang Whitney Houston's "I will always love you."

"It was just really fun," Wilkin's said, adding that they were extremely grateful for all the generous donations made for dollars for scholars.
