Residual and Noxious Weed

Whitman County Public Works Road Department is requesting any persons in Whitman County wishing to designate a portion of a Whitman County Road right-of-way as a “NO-SPRAY” area, please contact the Public Works Office at (509) 397-5200 for information and agreement applications. Verification and confirmation of all existing “NO-SPRAY” areas is necessary. Failure to confirm your “NO-SPRAY” area may result in that area being treated with residual and noxious chemicals. Please apply by March 6, 2023 for residual and noxious weed control on all roads, gravel and paved.

Sealed bids will be received on the following proposal by the Board of County Commissioners of Whitman County, State of Washington, at its office in the Whitman County Courthouse in Colfax, Washington, until 10:30 a.m Pacific Time on February 21, 2023 at which time they will be opened and publicly read. Handicap access may be obtained by the Mill Street entrance to the Courthouse.

Each bid is to be separately sealed in an envelope addressed to the Board of County Commissioners with the name of the bidder and item bid, including time and date of opening written plainly on the outside of the envelope. (NO FAXES ACCEPTED.)

The Board of County Commissioners reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to accept the bid which in its estimation best serves the interests of Whitman County.

Detailed bid sheets and specifications may be obtained from the Public Works office, Second Floor, Public Service Building, 310 N. Main Street, Colfax, Washington, (509) 397-4622. Also available on whitmancounty.org.

NOTICE OF WAITING LIST CLOSURE FOR THE HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM (SECTION 8)

As of February 28, 2023, at 4:30 p.m., the Spokane Housing Authority (SHA) and Community Action Center (CAC) will be closing the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8/HUD) waiting list for Whitman County to all new applicants.

Both SHA and CAC do not take this action lightly and recognize the tremendous need for affordable housing in our area. In compliance with Federal code 24 CFR 982.206, and as recommended by the Housing Choice Voucher Program Guidebook, SHA and CAC have determined that the wait for housing for new applicants has become unreasonable. The waiting list will close until such a time that the wait time for available housing is no longer 12-24 months from the time of application.
