Jerine D. Grey

June 7, 1946 - January 20, 2023

Jerine D. Grey, longtime Endicott resident, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023, at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services are Monday, January 30, at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott. Burial will follow at the Endicott Cemetery. Viewing for those who wish is at the Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax on Thursday and Friday, January 26 - 27, from 9 to 5.

Jerine was born June 7, 1946, in Colfax to Lawrence E. and Doris E. (Bartleson) Bafus and grew up on the family farm near Endicott with her older sister, Barbara. Jerine was one of the youngest on the Endicott Cheer Squad and played clarinet in the school band.

Jerine met John W. Bachmann in Endicott; they married in 1963 and began a family with the arrival of daughter Ella while they were living in Wilbur. She kept busy as a homemaker and mother and liked to plan epic birthday parties while John worked in the banking industry. They lived in several towns in Eastern Washington including Spokane, where their family grew with the birth of son Ray. Jerine worked briefly in the Oroville drug store and then was the high school secretary in Newport for several years which made it much harder for her kids to skip school.

When her marriage to John ended, Jerine moved to Spokane where she found a job as Ferris High School secretary, later transferring to KSPS-TV as office manager. She continued to visit friends in Newport on weekends and holidays, many times at the Eagles where she met Frank Grey on the dance floor, beginning a long friendship and courtship that endured and included a lot of traveling and exploring. They married in Diamond on April 14, 2000.

Jerine and Frank returned to her original family farm in Endicott where they cared for her sister, Barbara, and mother, Doris. Jerine was often seen around town, at ladies coffee or knitting with the quilting group with a smile on her face and a gracious word. She never knew a stranger, only friends she hadn't met yet. She was a very giving person, always volunteering and involved with the church, and enjoyed knitting baby blankets and other items she gave to many through the years.

Jerine is survived by her husband, Frank, in Endicott; her 2 children; Ella Brackett of Renton and Ray (and April) Bachmann of Corpus Christi and by Frank's children and grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and her son-in-law, Brad. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Endicott Cemetery, the Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott or the American Cancer Society.
