Re-elected officials sworn in for another term

COLFAX– Nine re-elected officials were sworn into the Superior Court Tuesday Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. by Superior Court Judge Gary Libey.

The nine officials elected were Wraylee Flodin, as County Assessor; Sandy Jamison, as County Auditor; Jill Whelchel, as County Clerk; Annie Pillars, as County Coroner; Denis Tracy, as Prosecutor; Sheriff Brett Myers, as Whitman County Sheriff; Chris Nelson, as Treasurer; Judge John Hart, as District Court Judge; Michael Largent, as County Commissioner.

At the ceremony Libey flipped an Abraham Lincoln coin to choose who to swear in first between the Sheriff and Prosecutor. Tracy was sworn in first, due to calling heads.

"Sheriff Myers and Denis Tracy have served 20 years in their elected positions," said Libey, adding they started their sixth term Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Libey added a personal touch in explaining each official's time in office, as well as introducing their family and their friends, "It was a very exciting and pleasant experience," he said.

Largent has served four terms, and is now serving his fifth term. "He's served 16 years," said Libey.

Both Nelson, and Jamison have served one four year term, and are now starting their second term. As well as Hart.

Pillars confirmed she was appointed as coroner in march of 2018 to take Pete Martin's place when he retired. She will be serving her second term. "I love this work, it's very privileged work," she said.

Whelchel served two four year terms as county clerk and will be serving her third term, confirmed Libey.

Flodin was appointed mid-term of the fourth term, because the current Assessor at the time, Robin Jones had passed away, both Jamison and Libey confirmed. Flodin was appointed by the commissioners to serve, and ran for the first time to serve in the current term. She'll be serving her first four year term.
