December 15, 2022

PULLMAN — According to a Washington State Patrol press release sent out Thursday afternoon, the Palouse Area Law Enforcement Critical Incident Response Team (PALECIRT) is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred early Thursday morning at 1000 Southeast Latah Street.

A Pullman man in his thirties was threatening to kill his roommates, when Pullman Police Department (PPD) officers responded to the disturbance at 8:34 p.m. on Wednesday, reports say.

Whitman County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, including Whitman County Sheriff’s officers (WCSCO), PPD, and the Washington State University Police Department (WSU PD) responded to the incident.

Prior to the use of lethal force at 3:58 a.m. Thursday morning officers on scene attempted to negotiate with the individual through verbal communications and less lethal tools, states the press release.

The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Whitman County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased when appropriate, reports say. There were no officers injured, and the WSU PD will the release the name of the involved officer at a later time.

The WSP will be the lead investigating agency in the incident, states the press release.

When the PALECIRT investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
