Winter storm warning in effect

COLFAX – A winterstorm warning went into effect for Whitman County on Tuesday afternoon until today at 7 p.m.

Heavy snow was anticipated for Wednesday with light snow expected today.

The NWS anticipated total snow accumulation between 6-10 inches west of State Route 195, and in the towns of Genesee, Plummer, Rosalia, Potlatch, Pullman, Oakesdale, Uniontown, Tekoa, Moscow, LaCrosse and Colfax.

The NWS also warned of slick conditions especially on bridges and overpasses.

Drifting snow was expected, and anticipated to complicate travel and evening commutes.

Normal traffic conditions were indicated on State Routes 127 and 26 and Highway 195 at the time of press on Nov. 29.

Although the winter report went into effect on Nov. 29, there was snowfall across the Palouse on Nov. 28 with multiple collisions and crashes reported.

According to a press release via City of Pullman Communications Director Matt Young, there were over 100 crashes across the Palouse on Nov. 28, and city staff responded to the weather forecast by deploying road salt and liquid deicer units beginning on the morning of Nov. 28.

The second snowfall of the week forced a “rapid pivot” of available snow plows to concentrate on snow removal and road salts and gravel on major highways, according to the press release.
