Four found dead in Moscow apartment

Police called for report of an unconscious person

MOSCOW, IDAHO — The Moscow Police Department responded to a call for an unconscious person in a unit on King Road Sunday, Nov. 13 discovering four college-aged individuals dead inside the apartment.

All four victims were students at the University of Idaho, and have been identified by the Moscow Police as Ethan Chapin, 20, of Conway Wa; Madison Mogen, 21, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; Xana Kernodle, 20, Avondale, AZ; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21 or Rathdrum, Idaho, according to a Monday Nov. 14 press release.

“The Moscow Police Department and the City of Moscow is deeply saddened for the families of these individuals, fellow students and friends, and our community during this time. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to each and every person affected by this incident,” the Nov. 14 press release states.

According to a press release released Tuesday, Nov. 15 no weapons have been located, based on preliminary information, investigators believe that an edged weapon such as a knife was used. Autopsies are scheduled to be completed later this week, the press release states.

According to reports investigators are working on establishing a timeline of events to re-create the victims’ activities on the night of Saturday, Nov. 12, and into Sunday morning to identify persons of interest.

Reports say a suspect has not been identified, and Moscow police state that there is currently no one in custody.

The Moscow Police Department is working with the Idaho State Police, as well as other State and federal law enforcement partners on the case, states the Nov. 15 press release.
