Top Notch Cafe closing doors after 11 years

COLFAX —The Top Notch Cafe, located at 210 North Main Street, owners Pete and Candis Koerner are closing Saturday, Nov. 12.

“We are moving out of state,” said Mrs. Koerner, adding that they are moving to Pennsylvania to be able to watch their daughter play college softball.

Mrs. Koerner explained that Top Notch Cafe has been in Colfax since 1938, and that there have been multiple owners, “the most famous owner mentioned was Jim Masten,” she said.

The Koerners bought the Top Notch Cafe in 2011.

Mrs. Koerner has mixed feelings about closing down, “at this time I’m exhausted, because I’m dealing with cleaning up here,” she said, noting that it will probably hit her more when they close the doors on Saturday.

“I’m sad to see it go,” she said.

More than anything the Koerner’s are concerned about their regular customers.

“We’re not from here, but we’ve made a lot of friends in this business,” she said, adding that they’ve had a lot of support throughout the years, “Our coffee guys in the morning will be dearly missed, but we’re trying to find them new coffee homes.”
