National Drug Take Back this Saturday

SUPER hosts DEA National Drug Takeback

COLFAX– Substance Use Prevention Education and Resources (SUPER) is hosting a Drug Take Back Day Saturday, Oct. 29th in the Rosauers Parking lot, 632 North Main Street, near the old Cornerstone building from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The Colfax Police Department will be there during the event, in which attendees can turn in unneeded medications for safe disposal.

“Whitman County Health Department has provided us with a sharps disposal container for those with expired epi pens, insulin, and needles,” said community coordinator of Colfax SUPER Sara Golden.

Golden noted that there will be Halloween coloring pages, glowsticks, and candy donated by the Colfax School District to give away to kids while the adults learn about keeping medications safely stored in their homes. As well as disposing of any expired, unused, or unneeded medication at the event.

“There will be free prescription lock boxes for anyone that needs to keep medications safe in the home or safe while traveling,” Golden added.

DEA will collect vape pens or other e-cigarette devices only after the batteries are removed. If unable to remove the battery the DEA will not take the device. Individuals can check at large electronic chain stores to see if the store can properly dispose of it. Consumers can also contact local hazardous material management facities to determine if their devices will be accepted, and for further guidance regarding disposal.
