COLFAX– This weekend the Morgan Family will have their 31st annual Plowing Bee, Saturday, Oct. 22, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2501 Manning Road.
John Morgan, 86, of Colfax explained that his brother decided to do the Plowing Bee, “Once we did it, we’ve been doing it for years.” Morgan said.
The program starts at 8 a.m. with visiting, hitching, and plowing. At noon there will be lunch, LJ’s Barbecue, followed at 1 p.m. by more visiting and driving.
Morgan stated that the Plowing Bee is for people to do whatever they feel like doing, “There’s always people standing around asking questions, and people will make their tractors available for others to get in and drive,” he said, noting that one attendee drove for hours.
Visiting with the people who come with similar interests is Morgan’s favorite part of the Plowing Bee, “I just really enjoy talking to the people that come.”
For the Morgan Family the bee is a chance to show a picture of the past, “It’s a teaching thing to show what was before,” he said, “you can’t appreciate today without appreciating what came before.”
Morgan explained that last year had a big turnout, noting that people bring their own tractors, “we have a few of our own that people can drive,” he said.
