Colfax volleyball continuing strong stretch of play

Bulldogs coming out of week-long break with winning record

Colfax volleyball is coming off a week-long break from games, and it comes as the Bulldogs are on a win streak and hope to carry the momentum out of the break.

Colfax is currently 5-1 on the season (outside of tournament play) and undefeated in league competition at 5-0.

The Bulldogs are coming off two straight 3-0 wins, defeating Jenkins High School (Chewelah) in set scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-16 on Sept. 29, and a win against Asotin on Oct. 4 with set scores of 25-24, 25-15 and 25-13.

Stat leaders against Jenkins were Brynn McGaughy and Jaisha Gibbs – leading the team with four blocks each, Brenna Gilchrist who had 14 digs, McGaughy who led the team with 17 kills, Gilchrist and Lauryn York – who led the team with four and three aces respectively and York and Gibb who had 15 and 13 assists, respectively.

Against Asotin, McGaughy led the way with seven blocks. Gilchrist and York had nine digs while Hailey Demler had eight, McGaughy had 15 kills, Gibb and Ava Swan led the way with two blocks apiece and York and Gibb had 15 blocks and 10 blocks to lead the way for the team, respectively.

Colfax was originally scheduled to face off against their often co-opt partners for other sports in Oakesdalde on Oct. 1. The game was rescheduled to Oct. 7 before it was canceled again. There is no word on if the game will be made up at a later date this season.

Colfax has won four straight games outside of tournament play since its 3-2 opening season loss against Pullman and has six more games on its schedule before districts start on Oct. 31 (possibly seven if the Oakesdale game is rescheduled). If Colfax goes undefeated through those six games, the Bulldogs will finish the season with a 10-1 overall record and 8-0 in league play.

The first of those six will come at 6:30 p.m. today against Upper Columbia Academy in Colfax.
