Colfax falls to 1A foe

NINE MILE FALLS – The Colfax Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with Class 1A opponent Lakeside in a non-league football matchup Friday, Sept. 30.

The Bulldogs lost to the Eagles 58-34.

Lakeside jumped out to a two-score lead against Colfax (1-4, 1-3) with 8:15 left in the first quarter before the Bulldogs responded with a touchdown pass from quarterback Seth Lustig to running back Zachary Cooper.

Lustig scored on the 2-point conversion to shorten the Eagle lead to 6 points.

Lakeside went on a 31-6 run to go into halftime with a 45-14 lead.

Colfax tightened up the defense in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 20-13, shutting out Lakeside in the fourth.

But the Eagle’s first half scoring was two much for the Bulldogs to overcome and the Eagles ultimately ran away with the win.

Colfax showed some bright points in the game.

The Bulldogs outgained Lakeside in total yards 453 to 436. Colfax also won the time of possession and the turnover battle, holding the ball for 32:10 compared to the Eagle’s 15:29 and forcing two turnovers to Lakeside’s one.

Lustig went 8-for-16 passing for 202 yards and three touchdowns.

Tanner Senter had 10 rushes for 144 yards and a touchdown. Cooper had three receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns combined with 58 rushing yards for 143 total offensive yards.

The Bulldogs face another Class 1A foe, the Chelan Goats, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.
