Meter Foundation, Wells Fargo award grants

Send volunteers to Palouse Habitat for Humanity

September 29, 2022

MOSCOW – Wells Fargo has awarded a $15,000 grant and Meter Foundation awarded $7500 to purchase building materials for the Martinez family home build currently under construction in Moscow.

“Habitat homes are affordable because of donations like this, and because of the community volunteers who give the gift of time and labor building the home. Roughly 25% of the population of Whitman County and 10% of Latah County live at or near the poverty line, and we have high housing costs compared to national averages,” Executive Director, Jennifer Wallace said, “This means that substandard housing, crowding, structural damage and disrepair, etc, are facts of life for many of our low-income neighbors. Palouse Habitat for Humanity reaches out, one family in need at a time, and helps them earn a safe, secure, affordable home.”

Wells Fargo branches around the region volunteered on the build site last week, helping raise the roof trusses and painting siding for the future Habitat home of Aimee Martinez and her twin boys in Moscow. Meter Foundation volunteerswill be on the build site this week.

“The energy these volunteers bring to the build site is infectious, and their financial support makes a tremendous difference. Progress so far on the home is thanks to the funds raised at Beans ‘n’ Jeans last April. These additional gifts are welcome financial support when building costs continue to be high,” Wallace said, “The Martinez home is expected to cost close to $200,000 our most expensive build yet.”
