OAKESDALE – This weekend, Saturday, Sept. 24, ruckers will be gathering at Steptoe Butte to honor the fallen. Starting at Steptoe Butte at 7 a.m. there will be a 10K on Ragon/Hume Road at 10:30 a.m., and a 5K on Huggins Road/Hume Road at 11:45 a.m. The Ruckers are expected to arrive in Oakesdale at 12:30-1p.m., and will be joined by the mini ruckers on the last mile.

"This weekend is about marching for heroes. It's about honoring the memory of a hero in your world. All heroes in general," said coordinator Marletta Sisak.

While the ruckers are out there will be vendors in Oakesdale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can bid at the silent auction.

"We have a huge silent auction taking place this week," Sisak explained, "It's really big," she noted that there will be thousands of dollars in merchandise. There are Seahawk tickets, a weekend winery getaway, Boise State University tickets, autographed merchandise, clothing, jewelry, paintings, specialty items, kid's toys, and a lot of food. More information can be found on the Ruck for the Fallen facebook page. Attendees can bid in person on Saturday 10-3.

Sisak's son First Sergeant Mitch Kriebel, the President of the Oakesdale Ruck for the Fallen, will be rucking this weekend after already completing a 100 mile and four day ruck. "He did a 110 day ruck in four days," she said, explaining that it was a military ruck that he and his two teammates got first place in. "All three had to do the allotted miles in the alloted time in the day to win the competition." Kriebel and the two teammates will be rucking this weekend at the event in Oakesdale.

Sisak explained that Kriebel is deploying overseas within days of this event for over a year, "we really want to send him off with a lot of love and support, and support his next year of service," she said, also noting that they will be throwing him a send off party for friends and family at 5 p.m. at T.J.s Junk yard located at the intersection of Highway 27 and Farmington road between Garfield and Oakesdale. "All are welcome! There will be music and food."

Ruck for the Fallen is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting veterans. The organization raises funds by participating in rucks, hosting and organizing local events, community donations for heroes and their families facing difficult times. All funds raised are used to support heroes, and the programs that support them. "The pain we feel in our shoulders holds no bearing on the pride and commitment we carry in our hearts," is the rucker's quote, their motto "Deeds not words" not just a saying, but a way of life.
