Allen to lead Library District

Palouse man takes helm of literacy

COLFAX —Whitman County Rural Library District’s new director Cody Allen is no newcomer to the Palouse.

Born and raised in Lewiston, Allen began his career at Clarkston’s Asotin County Library before attending Whitworth College in Spokane, where he worked in the school’s library.

After college, Allen spent seven years working for the Billings Public Library in Montana, where Allen says he gained an appreciation for the profession.

“It was really just the work itself that I really love,” said Allen, “I really liked being part of the community and serving people.”

As director, Allen will be heading the district’s administration and overseeing staff and programming in the district’s 14 rural library branches.

“The whole district is an amazing set of libraries, so that’s a good part of the job,” said Allen.

In his new role, Allen says that he will look for new ways to serve Whitman County while strengthening ties with community organizations.

“How lucky am I that I have a job that I get to help people every day,” said Allen.
