Tapestry Women's Choir returns to local stage

COLFAX – After a multi-year hiatus, the local Tapestry Women’s Choir is back.

The group performed Monday night, May 2, at United Methodist Church.

The choir was directed by Liza Dailey and the choir performed 14 songs.

“We were really happy with how the concert went and it was really a wonderful audience,” Daily said. “I was really happy with how everyone sang. It was fun to hear how tight the vocals were.”

The choir was accompanied by pianist Mary Wiley.

Performed songs were to the theme of “Rivers, Lakes, and Seas Songs of the Water.”

Tapestry Women’s Choir performed a variety of songs that ranged from acapella to body-percussion.

“We did some fun things that made the audience chuckle and I love seeing the audience move through us,” Dailey said.

The choir includes Marlene Michael, Linda Hennigar, Tani Duncan, Mary Chastain, Ana Maria Sears, Bonnie Brumley, Lindsay Mellor, Andrea Barrett, Kami Cornwall, Erica Anderson, Debbie Wolfe and Diane Monson.

The choir was originally set to reunite and perform in March 2020 but were shut down due to COVID-19 mandates.

“This was mainly the same program we were preparing in March 2020,” she said. “We had gotten a good start on it but it took us two and half years for us to get back here and see faces not behind masks.

“We used to have bigger audiences but we didn’t expect to see as big of an audience as we did last night post-pandemic.

Tapestry Women’s Choir used to perform twice a year and the director has every intention to continue with the scheduling from before.

“We traditionally worked all spring and took the summer off. We prepare for twice a year and hopefully return to the same three venues early in December,” Dailey noted.

The choir is excited to perform again and Dailey is in the process of organizing the next set for the Christmas concert, she said.

“Just watching the pieces all come together and seeing the people come together made a great experience for us. There is still more to come.” she said.
