Men held on $5,000 bail

Suspects nabbed while stealing ATV in Rosalia area

ROSALIA – Two Spokane men were arrested April 10 after Whitman County Sheriff’s Office deputies caught them red-handed allegedly trying to steal an ATV.

Rown Jokinen, 49, and Michael Gunion, 49, both of Spokane, were booked into the Whitman County Jail following the theft attempt, records show.

Bail was set at $50,000 for each man, records show.

Jokinen was arrested on two counts of second-degree assault, second-degree burglary, first-degree theft and third-degree driving while license suspended in the third degree.

Gunion was arrested for second-degree burglary and theft.

Records show the men were arrested after homeowners watched the duo stealing their ATV from a detached garage and called the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspects drove the ATV through adjoining fields to a parked tan SUV and left toward Oakesdale, Sheriff Brett Myers said.

Deputies located the SUV and identified the driver and passenger.

“Both occupants were later identified by the property owners as the individuals they observed on their property taking the (ATV),” Myers said.
