Colfax girls win three in a row

Tekoa-Rosalia girls sweep Mary Walker; Vikings split

CLARKSTON - The Colfax girls fastpitch softball team knocked off a Class 2A team Tuesday night in the opening game of a doubleheader.

Colfax (6-1) rode a 6th inning rally to a 7-2 victory, handing the Clarkston Bantams (3-1) their first loss of the year.

Individual Colfax stats were not available at press time, with Game 2 was underway.

The win came on the heels of a blowout over Northeast 2B rival Davenport on Saturday, April 2.

The Colfax girls dominated the Davenport Gorillas, 23-2 in the opening game of that doubleheader and continued the blowout with a 16-0 win in the second game.

The games were the first of the season for Davenport (0-2).

Davenport was supposed to host Tekoa-Rosalia last Tuesday, March 29. But that doubleheader was canceled.

In Game 1 of the Colfax's mercy rule victory in 4 innings over Davenport, Colfax senior pitcher Jorja Koerner threw a shutout, but gave up 2 hits.

Koerner didn't walk any batters.

At the plate, teammate Harper Booth led the Bulldogs, driving in 5 runs.

Booth was 3-for-4 batting. with a homerun in the 1st inning, a triple in the 2nd, a single in the 3rd and a double in the 4th. She also had 5 RBIs in the game.

In the top of the 1st, Harper's homerun put herself and two teammates over the plate.

In the same inning, Koerner had a triple, Delaney Imler a double and Alaina McCully a single.

Booth and Imler each had 3 hits in the game.

Imler, Booth, McCully and Karmen Akesson each had 2 hits.

Colfax took a 5-0 lead at the end of the 1st inning, added 2 runs in the 2nd, 5 in the 3rd and wrapped up the game with 4 in the 4th.

For the Bulldogs, Akesson crossed the play 3 times, as did Devan Becker.

Booth, McCully and B. Gilcrhist had 2 runs each, and Imler, Keilena Nelson, A. Swan and Ella Jones each scored once.

The Bulldogs had 15 hits and no errors in the game. Davenport had 2 hits and 2 errors.

In the second game, Delaney Imler drove in six runs on three hits to lead the Bulldogs in their 25-2 mercy rule win in 4 innings.

With the bases loaded, Imler hit a homerun, to pull Colfax up 4-0 in the Top of the 1st.

It was Imler's first of two homers in the game - she hit a second homerun in the 4th.

Colfax added 7 more runs in the top of the 2nd before Davenport would score its first run of the day.

At the top of the 3rd leading 11-2, Colfax added 5 more runs.

And the local girls finished off the game with a 9-run top of the 4th.

Those 9 runs were led by Alaina McCully, B. Gilchrist, A. Swan, Jorja Koerner and Imler.

Davenport couldn't answer and the Bulldogs notched a dominant victory.

Karmen Akesson pitched for the win in Game 2, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs.

In the win, Imler scored 5 runs and amassed 6 RBIs.

Harper Booth, Jorja Koerner, Devan Becker, and B. Gilchrist each had 3 runs.

Scoring twice were Harley Hennigar, Alaina McCully and A. Swan.

Teammates KeiLena Nelson and Ella Jones each added 1 run.

Jorja Koerner had 4 RBIs and Harley Henniger 3.

Karmen Akesson, Devan Becker, B. Gilchrist and A. Swan each had 2 RBIs, and teammates KeiLena Nelson and Alaina McCully each had 1.

The Colfax girls junior-varsity team also took to the diamond Thursday, March 31 against Garfield-Palouse.

A box score and individual statistics were not reported in that doubleheader in Colfax.

Vikings split

The Garfield-Palouse varsity girls fastpitch team also played Prarie, Idaho, and Pomeroy last week.

The Vikings split with league Rival Pomeroy on Tuesday, March 26.

The local girls won the opening game of the doubleheader, 10-3, then narrowly lost, 10-9 in Game 2.

In the first game, Pomeroy got on the board with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Pomeroy scored 1 in the 4th, but the Vikings answered with 2 more.

In the bottom of the 6th after Pomeroy closed the gap by 1, Garfield-Palouse rallied with 6 runs to take a 10-2 lead.

Pomeroy could only muster 1 more run in the top of the 7th, for a final score of 10-3.

Pomeroy's runs were scored by junior Jillian Herres, sophomore Hannah Bagby and senior Kelley Maves.

Vikings individual statistics were not reported.

In Game 2, Garfield-Palouse came out on fire, putting 7 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th to take a 7-3 lead.

The score remained the same until the 5th, when Pomeroy added 1 and the Vikings 2, for a 9-4 lead.

Pomeroy rallied for 6 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 10-9 lead.

With no scoring in the 7th inning, the margin remained.

On Thursday, March 28, the Vikings girls split with Prairie High School of Cottonwood, Idaho, losing the first game 12-11, then winning the nightcap, 20-4.

The Tekoa-Rosalia girls finally have their first wins of the season.

The Timberwolves (2-3) girls fastpitch team swept the Mary Walker Chargers (0-6) in a doubleheader Saturday, April 2, in Rosalia.

The Timberwolves girls won the first game, 9-8, and the second game 11-9.

Individual statistics were not reported for the Timberwolves-Chargers game.
