The four local scholars competed on two teams; both needed a score of 90 out of 100 to earn a gold medal. In addition to earning gold, the students finished seconnd overall in the state.

The finish advances them to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference from June 29 to July 3 in San Diego, Calif.

Among the competitions and leadership activities at nationals, the students will hear a keynote speech by Kenyon Salo, a member of the Denver Broncos Thunderstorm Skydive Team, which parachutes into Bronco Stadium during home football games.

In addition to Tekoa, Colfax FCCLA members participated in the state event in Wenatchee.

Details on their successes were not available at press time.
