Primary results narrow cities council races

Top two candidates run for Nov. 3

COLFAX - The two candidates with the most votes move forward toward the November general election.

The only races in the primary election are ones with three or more candidates.

The Aug. 3 primary election ballots are all counted. Whitman County voters cast 2,731 ballots. It means 34.8% of the county's 7,893 registered voters took part in the primary election.

The last ballots were counted on Aug. 6 but results remain unofficial until they are certified by the county canvassing board on Aug. 16.

Scott Shauf and Scott Hokonson continue running for the Malden town council position 1. Shauf received 34 votes (77.27%) and Hokonson 6 votes (13.64%). Kelly Adams is eliminated after receiving 4 votes (0.09%).

For position 3 on the Malden town council, Janell Turner and John Lenz are the remaining candidates. Turner received 23 votes (51.11%) and Lenz got 16 votes (35.56%). Colleen Cross trailed both with 6 votes (13.33%).

In Palouse, Robert Brooks and Leslie Jo Senas continue running to be elected to city council position 6. Brooks received 143 votes (41.21%) and Senas got 132 votes (38.04%). Scott Storch was eliminated with only 71 votes (20.46%).

Pullman voters can choose between Francis A. Benjamin and Al Sorensen in the November general election. Benjamin received 890 votes (38.26%) and Sorensen got 591 votes (25.41%),

Eliminated are Eric Felerran after receiving 517 votes (22.23%) and Max Williams getting 324 votes (13.93%).

The general election is on Nov. 2.
