Winter weather advisory expired at 1 p.m. today

COLFAX — A National Weather Service winter weather advisory was expected to expire at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 11, following freezing rain and snowfall overnight.

The advisory was issued at 5:11 a.m. today, shortly after snow started falling in the city.

This morning, the state Department of Transportation was reporting state Highway 26 as snow-covered between Colfax and Washtucna.

Other roads were slick, too, with at least one slide-off being reported on Dry Creek Road. Nobody was injured.

Posting on social media, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office cautioned motorists.

“Roadways are extremely slick right now around the Colfax area. Please use caution and reduce speed,” the post said.

At press time, snowfall totals were not available. The weather service was expecting 3 inches to fall between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.

But that won’t likely be the last of it this weekend.

According to the weather service, there’s a 30% chance of more snow tonight. Another inch is in the forecast for Sunday, with some snow possible overnight and then 7 p.m. Sunday.

It may also snow Monday, the weather service said.

Another winter storm is expected to bring more snow to the area next Wednesday, the weather service said.
