Summoned for tool theft

Series: Crime Briefs | Story 36

COLFAX—Mark Scott of Roy has been summoned to appear in Whitman County Superior Court Oct. 16 on charges of possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Scott was stopped by Whitman County Deputy Tyler Langerveld July 25 for suspected connection to a wire theft case. During a search of the vehicle, Dpt. Langerveld discovered contractor grade Dewalt brand tools which Scott claimed belonged to his boss and he was borrowing. The deputy allegedly also discovered and seized a meth pipe during the search. Scott was released from the scene. Follow up on the encounter lead deputies to a theft of power tools reported to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office.

The list of stolen tools matched what had been seen in Scott’s vehicle. The victim of the alleged theft was able to positively identify the tools in a review of the deputy’s body cam footage.

According to the report, attempts by law enforcement have been unsuccessful in locating Scott.
