DUI accident sends one to hospital

COLFAX – Whitman County Deputies and EMS personnel from Fire District 14 and Lewiston Fire responded to a report of a two-vehicle injury accident near Granite Point on the Snake River May 17 around 3 p.m.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Nathan Miller, 37, of Lewiston was traveling westbound on Wawawai Road in his 2011 Mercedes sedan when he collided with another vehicle from behind.

According to witnesses, Miller had just completed a pass of an uninvolved vehicle when the vehicle in front of his started to slow or pull off the road. It was at that time Miller’s vehicle struck the 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon, forcing it off the roadway and into about three feet of water in the Snake River. The driver of the Outback was able escape the vehicle and return to shore.

A female passenger in Miller’s vehicle was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewiston with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

This accident is still under investigation and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, according to the Sheriff's Office. Miller was arrested on charges of DUI.
