PULLMAN – Brissia Valenciano Ibarra, 18, of Pullman, was booked into the Whitman County Jail Saturday after leading a WSU police officer on a chase which at one point reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour on Grand Ave.

Officer Brock Westerman initially attempted to stop the white Nissan Altima Valenciano Ibarra was driving for going 41 mph in a 25 mph zone just before 1 a.m. According to the arrest report, during the pursuit she went 50 in a 25 mph zone and 60 in a 30 mph on Stadium Way. Valenciano Ibarra stopped for a red light at the intersection of Stadium Way and Grand Ave., then ran the red light, turning southbound onto Grand Ave. Valenciano Ibarra continued on Grand Ave. at speeds ranging from 60 to 80 mph. Westerman stated in the report he saw two hands stick up in the air through the sun roof periodically during the pursuit.

The pursuit came to a stop at the Harvest Drive entrance to Walmart when Valenciano Ibarra stopped the car and stood up through the sun roof. She was arrested without incident by Westerman and officers from Pullman Police who had responded to assist.

Valenciano Ibarra was the only occupant of the vehicle.

According to the arrest report, she told officers in an interview she and two other males had been contacted earlier in the night by Moscow police. She had gone to her apartment and destroyed a large portion of her personal property and then gotten in her car.

According to the arrest report, Valenciano Ibarra told officers she had not initially pulled over because she wanted to make an impact on the world and that God was talking to her. She allegedly stated she had put her hands through the sun roof because "God was taking the wheel." While she did not want to harm herself, she intended to be caught by police and was deliberate in chosing to elude.

Valenciano Ibarra showed no signs of impairment and stated she knew what she was doing. She was allowed pretrial release on her own recognizance.
