Virtual welding at Colton

Colton High School junior Cole Hennigar welds a T-joint on a simulator Jan. 24 as students tried out a new Miller Arc Augmented Reality Welding System.

Ryan Porter, from A-L Compressed Gases in Moses Lake, brought the system to Colton for students to use in preparation for the school district buying the system.

The machine trains students to perform various welds without using any metal products.

The welding hood simulates actual welding and the system grades the welder on speed, distance of tip from material, angle of welder and other skills.
