Dusty Attic will expand to second location on Main Street, Leftovers

Dusty Attic is making space for furniture with a second location called Leftovers.

Leftovers is scheduled to open by Oct. 19 and will run similar hours as Dusty Attic, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The new store will be across the street from Dusty Attic, at 114 N Main Street. It was the former location of Abbey Tax Service.

Mary Davidson, co-owner of Dusty Attic, said that in the past two and a half years with Dusty Attic people would come in asking for bookcases, end tables, etc.

The Davidsons have those items in storage, but they can't display them because of limited space in the store.

“This is an opportunity to get something people have been asking for out of storage,” Davidson said. “You can only have so many yard sales and so many estate sales, and I have a lot of nice furniture that is sitting in a storage unit.”

Mary and her husband, Kevin, opened Dusty Attic in Colfax in February of 2017. They operated a similar store in Buhl, Idaho, but decided to move to this area to be closer to family members.

The items being sold at Leftovers will include bigger furniture items and things that aren't necessarily antique or vintage that Dusty Attic doesn't usually sell, but still gently used second-hand goods.

“A lot of this is leftovers from estate sells, we have things ranging from small appliances to a baby grand piano,” Davidson said.

Davidson mentioned that she has quite a few goals for this new store. Some of those goals include working to improve the look of the building front, utilizing the inside so the store doesn't sit empty and possible consignment sells in the future.

Keeping the shopping local is important to Davidson. She said that giving people reasons to stay shopping in Colfax is one of the reasons why she enjoys owning a business.

“The more buildings we have full, the better,” Davidson said. “More businesses will encourage people to stop and shop and continue to have lunch or dinner at other local businesses.”

Davidson said that she has more than enough stuff to fill the new store for a while.

“This is something different than what I'm doing now, and I'm really excited about it,” Davidson said. “There was an opportunity for something that we needed, and I'm glad that I can fill that niche.”

Plans for a grand opening are expected for a few weeks down the road.
