Salzman, Starrett lead Endicott primary tally

Incumbent Endicott Mayor Steve Salzman and council challenger Derek Starrett topped the three-way tallies after the primary election poll closed Tuesday night.

Two proposals for the town of Farmington appeared to be on the brink after the Tuesday count, and proposals for the Colfax and St. John Cemetery districts were approved.

Salzman, former council member who was appointed mayor at Endicott, received 34 votes and Daniel Larson received 16 to advance to the general election. Don Adsitt received four votes.

Starrett topped the three-way race race for council seat three with 31 votes and will be on the November ballot with Kenda Hergert who had 14 votes in the first count. Incumbent Amber Hilton was bumped after receiving eight votes.

Farmington's request for an $8,000 levy for street work lagged below the 60 percent approval rate at 57.7 percent with 26 yes and 19 no votes.

The second Farmington request, $15,000 for current expenses, finished right on the mark at 60 per cent with 27 yes votes and 18 no.

Late arriving ballots could swing those results.

St. John Cemetery district voters returned the strongest yes vote with more than 78 percent in favor of a $16,000 maintenance and operation levy on a count of 160 yes and 44 no.

Colfax cemetery district's request for $200,000 for maintenance and improvements received 69.6 percent 387 yes and 181 no.

The primary netted a low turnout with 3,569 voters in the four districts and 884 ballots, 24.7 percent, returned as of the Tuesday count.
