Western exhibit set at Dahmen

Carla Danielson of Hooper, and Clover and Karl Rinehart of Uniontown will be featured in a “Western Lifestyles” exhibit at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. An opening reception will be Aug. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Danielson’s photos are taken only on her working ranch and printed on metal and mounted on recycled metal.

Rinehart selects the best leather for their products then sculpts each piece to a unique artful accessory.

Carla and her husband, Keith, live on Hooper Crossing Ranch where they breed, train and sell “plumb good horses.” Her photography began with the need to promote their horses and Keith’s training and clinics. The horses, cowboys, sunsets and wildlife insures endless photo opportunities, and her unique way of mounting her photos on re-purposed rusty tin sets her art apart. She has won numerous awards.

Clover and Karl Rinehart set up a custom leather shop in the milk house studio located outside of the main barn last October.

Dahmen Barn in Uniontown is open Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dahmen fundraiser

The annual summer fundraiser for the Dahmen Barn will be Saturday, Aug. 10, with a barn brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.

Julie Hartwig, Dahmen barn manager, said this year’s theme is “‘Modern Farmhouse” so the auction will have some farm house items, and one of a kind front porch chairs.

Packages, lots of original art, and a few months of farm fresh eggs will be sold.

A Model T driving lesson will also be auctioned off.

Tickets will be $25, reserve tickets by Aug. 5.

This is the Dahmen Barn’s annual signature fundraiser that helps support the continued operation of the Dahmen Barn.

Volunteers needed

Colfax Arts Council seeks volunteers to help with fish painting and installation. All are welcome. On Aug. 1, during First Thursdays, there will be fish painting at the library center from 3-5 p.m. There will also be a fish installation behind the Dusty Attic from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Fake news session

Neill Public Library instructors from the WSU Department of English will talk on “Outsmarting the Internet: Exploring Ways to Learn, Engage, and Avoid “Fake News” at Neill Library Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hecht Room.

This workshop will focus on effective and strategic internet use, and will explore the concept of “fake news” and how to spot it. Participants will also learn about forms of bias, techniques for establishing source credibility, and how to apply these principles to both work and personal settings.
