There is not one prisoner in the main jail of Whitman county today, and there is only one male prisoner now in the custody of the sheriff.

This man is John Hansen, who is now awaiting a decision on appeal to the supreme court. He was convicted of burglary and sentenced to nine months in prison.

After the lynching of Saturday morning, June 2, Hansen was the only inmate of the jail. It will be remembered that Hansen was Ed Hill’s cellmate on the night of the terrible deed, and passed through an ordeal of fear and dread and horror that he will shiver to...
