Fulbright scholar to speak at Neill

Arab history and culture will be the subject of a talk by a Moroccan scholar at Neill Public Library on May 24.

Dr. Mohammed Boudoudou, a Fulbright Scholar from Morocco now at the Community Colleges of Spokane, will talk on the “The ‘Arab World:’ Historical and Cultural Perspectives” at the Neill Public Library in Pullman May 24 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Boudoudou is a visiting scholar at the Global Education Office of CCS and has made several appearances around the region. His research has focused on world population mobility and its effects on the social structure of society.

The Spokane Falls Community College’s Pullman campus and the Neill Public Library, 210 N. Grand Ave., Pullman, are sponsoring this event. The SFCC Pullman campus on the WSU campus and serves more than 200 students.

Food Co-op tours WSU farm today

Moscow Food Co-op has arranged a tour of the WSU Organic Farm in Pullman May 16, at 3 p.m. Guests on the tour will have the chance to see the farm up close and meet farmers whose crops are sold on shelves in the Co-op’s Produce department.

This tour is the first of three farm tours to be offered this summer by the Co-op. Tours in mid-July will include Swallowtail Flowers and Living Soil Microfarms, both in Moscow.

Landscaping expert to visit St. John library

Kathy Hutton with Plants of the Wild will visit the St. John Library Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m. Hutton is presenting ideas for natural landscaping and answering questions about landscaping and gardening with plants that are native to our area. This program was rescheduled from an earlier date.

Plants of the Wild is located just outside of Tekoa and was started in 1979 with a goal of providing quality plant material for restoration and reclamation projects. They also have developed solutions for low-maintenance, water conserving landscapes.

WSU Retirees spring luncheon

Washington State University retirees will gather May 21 for their annual spring lunch at Banyans on the Ridge. The social will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon, followed by a brief program, according to President Dan Coonrad.

The deadline for reservations is Friday, May 17. Reservations may be made by calling the WSU Alumni Office, 1-800-ALUM-WSU. or emailing WSURA@wsu .edu.

Retirees Dave Nordquist and Orvil Sears will provide the entertainment with a cowboy poetry presentation.

Hill Parties slated for Monday in Pullman

The second annual Pullman Hill Parties, sponsored by Pullman Chamber of Commerce, will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 20. The five parties will be at Sunnyside Elementary School (Sunnyside Hill), Jefferson Elementary School (Military Hill), Lincoln Middle School (Pioneer Hill), the Banyans Pavilion (College Hill), and from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Seasoned House in downtown Pullman.

Sponsors are Washington Trust Bank, Pullman Regional Hospital, College Hill Association and Dissmore’s IGA.
