St John museum plans dinner, bingo to fund lighting project

St. John Heritage Museum committee met Jan. 10 to develop 2019 plans for museum improvement and fundraising activities. Improving display lighting was listed as the first priority.

“The members have worked for several years to create family stories and other displays of local history. Once everything was installed, the lack of professional lighting became very obvious,” Lydia Smith, committee chairwoman, said after discussing several options, the committee voted to host a family-friendly event rather than a casino night this winter. On Saturday, Feb. 16, the community is invited to a spaghetti dinner and bingo night at the community building. The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with spaghetti and meat sauce, salad and garlic bread. The price will be $10 for adults and teens and $5 for children 12 and younger. Take out dinners can be ordered between 5 and 6 p.m. by calling 648-3622.

A dessert silent auction is planned for those with a sweet tooth. Dinner service will end at 6:30 so the bingo can begin. Three bingo cards can be played for only $2, with a 50 percent cash payout. A free game area will be available for younger children.

The museum committee meets on the second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. Meetings are open and all are welcome.
