Fair cuts down trees

Twenty trees along the Palouse Empire Fair's RV park on Fairgrounds Road were scheduled to be removed this week, Bill Tensfeld, fair executive director, reported Friday. A check of the trees by an arborist determined 75 percent of the stand is showing signs of stress, and the trees have out-lived their expected life span.

Tensfeld said public safety is the top priority in deciding to remove the trees.

Avista crews, volunteers and staff members participated in the tree removal. The RV park is shut down during the project.

First trees were cut down Monday.
