Bethel Cemetery will join 'Wreaths Across America'

Bethel Cemetery at Steptoe will join more than 1,400 locations across America in the National Wreaths Across America Day. This will be the first year Bethel will participate in the program which has a mission to remember veterans, honor their service and teach the next generation about the sacrifices that were made.

The goal for Steptoe is to raise enough funds to place 104 wreaths on headstones of veterans in the cemetery Dec. 15, the designated day of remembrance, according to Cherry Alice Van Tine.

Wreaths Across America, based in Columbia Falls, Maine, began 10 years ago.

"We are forever grateful for the thousands of supporters who dedicate their time and effort to fulfilling our mission at the local level," said Karen Worcester, executive director.

Those interested in volunteering for Wreaths Across America or sponsoring a wreath for Bethel Cemetery can call Van Tine at 397-2745 for more information.
