Colfax school issues makeup day letters

Colfax School Supt. Jerry Pugh has mailed out a letter on how the district will deal with possible weather cancellations this year. Pugh noted in his letter this year’s school calendar is restricted by a May 31 finish and a June 1 commencement in order to allow construction to begin at the high school. That leaves the district with the option of making up winter cancellation days on Saturdays or spring vacation days.

Delayed starts could be one option on bad weather days and in some instances school could commence without buses on rural routes. If rural families are unable to get students to school in the event of a bus shutdown, the student absences will be recorded as “excused-school related.”

The school calendar for next year has also been compressed to allow for as much construction time as possible during the summer. A post-fair start of school next September is one of the features of next year’s schedule.

Any school closure weather will be relayed to Spokane television stations, as well as AM and FM radio stations in the area.
