Sheriff's office offers boater class

Whitman County Sheriff’s office Sept. 29 will offer a free, mandatory boater education course for Washington boaters. The seven-hour course will provide boaters the basics of safe boating.

Developed for the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, the course will be taught by Deputy John Giudice.

The course will be from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. upstairs in the Public Service Building at 310 N. Main St. in Colfax.

The course on Adventures in Boating Washington course manual and exam will be provided at the class.

State law requires Washington residents born on or after Jan. 1, 1955, to carry a boater education card when operating a boat on Washington’s waterways. The law applies to operators of motorboats of 15 horsepower or greater. Cards cost $10 and are good for a lifetime.

Call Deputy Giudice at the sheriff’s office for additional information.

The class can also be completed online: http://www.parks.wa.gov/boating.
