Boyer park may not have fireworks

With all the changes and new faces at Boyer Park and Marina, it is uncertain whether the park will have a fireworks display for the Fourth of July this year.

“It’s always been the concessionaires call,” said Debbie Snell, Port of Whitman properties and development manager. The port does not provide support for the fireworks.

Evon Maag, the new Boyer manager, has been busy taking reservations, getting the new store set up and making the change to KOA. In past years, concessionaires had the whole year to set up and grow a fireworks fund; Maag has been there for a month.

“I don’t know where to go from here,” she said

She does not have a problem setting up something in the office to start a fireworks fund, but is also uncertain of KOA’s fundraising guidelines.

Last year the fireworks bill was $1,800.

Boyer does plan to have Eric E. perform a concert Friday, July 6. They also have several busy weekends booked and the Snake River Family Fest scheduled for June 2.

Maag added they want to honor traditions at the park. So far, of the reservations she has taken, only two people have asked about the fireworks.

As of now, the answer is no fireworks, but others are working to try to change that before the July date.
