Speed limit cut on Whelan Road

Whitman County commissioners Monday approved a drop in the speed limit on a four-tenths of a mile section of Whelan Road north of Pullman off Highway 27. The segment includes a curve with driveway accesses and a McGregor facility.

The county Public Works department recommended the speed reduction, from 50 to 35 mph.

The change came out of a recent speed study the department conducted on nearby Kitzmiller Road, which intersects Whelan Road.

Public Works has been reviewing all of its paved road system for safety improvements over the past two years.
