WSDOT awards new safety grant

Washington Department of Transportation has awarded another road safety-improvement grant to Whitman County. The money is the third grant to the county through funding of the 2015 Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act.

Announced in a letter received the first week of January, $635,000 will go towards installing guardrails on the 28-mile run of Wawawai Road and along stretches on Pullman-Wawawai. In addition, the money will be used for rumble strips on paved roads around the county.

Some of the work may be done this year, with most of it expected to be performed in 2019.
